Valence
Building an online community for Black professionals
Website development
Product development
Launched in 2019 and based in California, Valence connects, showcases, and empowers the global Black professional community through the magic of technology and art.
Though black people make up nearly 13% of the United States population, they hold less than 3% of the nation’s total wealth. Valence exists to close the racial wealth gap and build generations of Black Professionals skilled in the art of business.
Gendall took over the site maintenance, support and ongoing website development releases in 2019. Following a successful onboarding process we continued to evolve the experience through the release of new features and functionality on a monthly basis.
Supporting a new place for Black talent
Recognising the need for a place to find Black talent, Valence is the first to bring together a global community of Black professionals. From up-and-coming chefs to some of California’s most influential venture capitalists, Valence is open to anyone who identifies as a Black professional. Once onboarded with a profile, members of the community can vouch for fellow members, offer or take up mentorship opportunities, browse the job board or gain access to exclusive events.
Delivering the vision
An important aspect of Valence’s 2020 growth strategy included being able to onboard existing like-minded organisations and groups of Black professionals. As part of this phase of development, we built the Organisations Directory. Creating a space for companies and groups alike to showcase their company, culture and jobs. In their first partnership, Silicon Valley Bank joined Valance to provide access to innovation.
Creating the Technology Stack
With big ambitions and constant development on the website, the technology stack we chose provided high scalability and a robustness of service.
